Thank you donor for the North Star Turkish Scholarship. I am beyond grateful to be the recipient of this scholarship. I come from a small developing country Nepal where most women are still deprived of education and career prospects. Being the first generation to study abroad has been a challenge but also something that has broadened my horizons. I have always wanted to do something for the women back in my home country and inspire them to study and move higher levels in life and in everything they do. I worked as a youth activist and social worker in non-profit organizations which has made me more passionate about working for the community and abide by the motto “People for others”. My decision to enroll at Dallas College has to be the best decision I have ever made. The classes and the way of teaching and learning is so fruitful. Everyone is helpful from the faculty to admissions, everyone is there to help you. After I graduate from Dallas College I will be transferring into a four year to pursue my Undergraduate degree in Computer Science. I want to motivate girls from my country to get into the technical field and pursue their dreams and goals. Thank you.

I’m D., a 2nd year UX design student. I am a 20-year-old young Turkish living in America. Ever since I was a child, I have had an interest in things that require creative thinking. While researching professions in the process of growing up, I preferred architecture like a child, most of whom are interested in painting. Towards the end of high school, I realized that this was a wish by heart, that it was a profession that was chosen with the awareness that it was a profession that would be accepted by society, and I decided to choose the UX design department by focusing on how I would be happy and successful. Although most people know this profession only as website design and reduce its impact, it is a department that has a direct relationship with human psychology. Since it is a major that includes both parts, this both scares and excites me. I don’t mind that I accept fear as a challenge, on the contrary, I am even more motivated. Unfortunately, it is getting harder to study in America due to currency, so scholarship acceptance is very valuable for us, international students. The troubles we experience in life can shape us in many ways. I want to help them in the future, especially financially, because the troubles I’ve had since I came to America are my experience for those who will come after me and I want them to live more easily. Although I know that school has an important place in a person’s life, I do not think that school alone is sufficient in terms of personal development and intellectual perspective. For this reason, I take care to take courses outside of school and do research. I think it has improved my self-discipline since there is no deadline or obligation. As I enter my third year in America and things are starting to get harder, this scholarship will help me a lot, especially financially. I would like to thank the Generosity Foundation for their support. As a community college student, while I had the stress of both my classes and my transfer to the university for four years, this support of the foundation has lifted a great burden and stress from me. Since I have one semester left to complete my core classes before I transfer to a -four-year university, I want to take Dallas College faculty and administrators for being so kind and helpful especially for international student.
